~The Proposal ~
Date: Saturday, April 22.
Time: Almost Midnight
Place: Adam's Basement, the darkroom
Background:
Adam and I set up a darkroom for me in his basement this last year, it was my birthday present and it was finished - chemicals bought and everything - about mid-March, but I've been so busy I haven't been able to do anything in it yet.
Right before Easter he got all excited about taking photos and developing them. I actually was a little suspicious, but the day we set out to take photos he wasn't near as excited about it as he'd originally been, so I decided that was just a spontaneous thought and had nothing to do with a proposal...
That Day:
He'd been talking all week about how he's now convinced he's a great photographer and can probably quit his day job and start doing photography professionally. So when he was anxious to get the film developed Saturday night, I thought THAT was why. We (I) started mixing chemicals at 9pm (Adam was watching The Godfather)...
I could have developed both rolls at the same time, but I hadn't done this in over two years, so I was just SURE I was going to mess up. When he grabbed the rolls of film out of my bag and camera I told him to remember which was which (one was pics we'd taken and the other was Easter photos). When I started the first roll I asked him which one it was, he said "I don't know. I don't even remember you telling me that." I was a little irritated, he only had one thing to remember for goodness sakes!
Nearing midnight, we were getting to the second roll of film, which I KNEW were Easter photos... I saw him take the film out of my camera! But when we pulled out the film and held it up to the light to see how it turned out... umm... those aren't Easter photos..

I read it out loud, looked at him... He said "Well?" and I guess I said "you have to say it." (he had to remind me of this...) so he got on one knee and said "Will you marry me?" I said "yes" and he put the ring on my finger.

I am so lucky to have found this boy, one who will always keep me on my toes (i'm going to spend the rest of my life figuring him out!) and one who will always stand beside me, support me and love me. I'm excited to be a part of his family, and for him to be part of mine. God has blessed us, and we know that with His guidance and divine example of love, we can love each other the way God meant for it to be.
And I can't wait for the day we say our vows... because we're gonna do the best we can to make it a great party!
